Food Hubs

Barnet Council work with the local community groups to help direct those in need of support towards food banks which are available to support families and individuals in need.

Using the table below you will be able to view all food banks within Barnet which can be accesed by residents when they require. Each service works independently to Barnet Council but in cohesion with the aim to help minimise, and in the long-term erradicate, food poverty from the London Borough of Barnet. 

Burnt Oak Community Food Bank

Burnt Oak Community Food Bank is an initiative set up to help those facing food poverty in the local area. They are open every fortnight on Thursdays 2pm – 4pm, and they accept anyone without access to food and there is no referral system – you just turn up.

Burnt Oak Women's Group

Burnt Oaks Women's Groups aim is to build a more trusting and inclusive society. Bringing together women from all cultural backgrounds, from all walks of life, from religious and non-religious backgrounds and all ages.

Child's Hill Food Bank

Child’s Hill food bank has been set up by a group of local people in partnership with All Saints’ Church and many others. They were aware of the growing need of support people need to help feed their families. Their objective is to provide food to those struggling to have enough. They serve those in need in NW2 and NW11 postcodes.

Chipping Barnet Food Bank

Chipping Barnet food bank don’t think anyone in the community should have to face going hungry. That’s why they provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

Christ Church Food Bank

Christ Church Food Bank operates out of the Open Door Centre within Christ Church, Barnet.

Claremont Road Food Hub

Working together Jesus House, Claremont Free Church and UK Mutual Aid have opened the Claremont Road Food Hub in NW2. We are preparing and delivering freshly cooked and nutritious meals and dry food parcels to those in need living nearby and across the borough of Barnet.

Colindale Food Bank

Colindale food bank don’t think anyone in the community should have to face going hungry. That’s why they provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

Community Network Group

The Community Network Group (CNG) was established as a registered CIC organisation supporting Iranian and ethnic minorities who live in the UK.

Finchley Food Bank

The Finchley Foodbank was founded in 2013 and is an ecumenical project of St Mary's RC Church, East Finchley and other local churches and organisations. They provide food and other assistance to local people needing support, supplying clients with enough food for three days. 

 

GIFT - Jewish UK Charity

For well over a decade, GIFT has been helping struggling families with weekly food packages designed to help supplement their weekly shopping.

We provide households with a weekly kosher food parcel containing some of the following:

  • non-perishable foods
  • bread, challah and baked goods
  • fruit & vegetables
  • household items
  • toiletries
  • chickens

Homeless Action Barnet

Homeless Action Barnet opened their doors in 1997. Today they provide support for Barnet's most vulnerable people.  In a standard week around 250 people will seek support from the experienced team at HAB. Their clients receive a welcome, food and a hot shower along with support to help overcome their issues and ultimately assist them in finding accommodation and their own independence. 

Living Way Ministries Food Share

Our Fresh Food-Share supports the central Government initiative in which good surplus foods are redistributed. In partnership with FareShare Go and Neighbourly UK, we collect foods such as vegetable, fruits, and bakeries from participating local food businesses and share with people who need them. Our food tables are God’s answer to the daily bread need of tens of people in the area and beyond. Every Wednesday Felix Project delivers several trays of varieties of balanced food stuff such as diaries, meats, vegetables, fruit juices et.c of which about 20kgs each bag of fresh foods are shared out at a minimal contribution to sustain daily collection of free foods from local food businesses.

Muswell Hill Food Bank

Muswell Hill food bank don’t think anyone in the community should have to face going hungry. That’s why they provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

NW7 Hub Food Hub

The NW7hub is a charity based in Mill Hill, North West London. Created by a group of committed local residents, our aim is to create opportunities for meaningful social engagement and learning whilst supporting local organisations, businesses and developing a strong community presence.

Rainbow Centre

The Rainbow Centre was taken over by the local community in 2012, led by a partnership of local organisations – The Somali Family Support Group, BCVYS and Barnet Community Projects. They formed the Rainbow Centre User Group (RCUG) so that the centre could stay open for local activities and services for all ages.

RCCT

In 2018 we created a one stop Hub that enables families and single vulnerable people to have a hot meal and access essential services. Every other week we held information sessions together with different services within Harrow and Barnet councils. Among the themes covered were settled and pre-settled status, employment, benefits and health. We also signposted to the relevant local services those that needed it.

We continue to run the Hub and have added a food bank, Romanian Food Hub, during the Covid pandemic. The Food Hub provides families and vulnerable adults weekly access to non-perishable food and links the Hub users not only to core services offered by local authorities but also to services/ opportunities offered by the 15 organisations collaborating through the Romanian and Eastern European Network.

St Barnabas Food Bank

Open to everyone in need on Mondays: 12noon-2pm
No vouchers required - we work on a basis of trust and dignity

Unitas Youth Zone

Unitas is an independent charity and purpose-built youth centre for Barnet’s young people aged 8 to 19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs. Our fantastic facilities are available at the nominal cost of £5 a year and 50p per visit. We support North London’s young people with three things they deserve and need; somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to.
