This years national Black History Month's theme is Celebrating our Sisters / Saluting our Sisters / Matriarchs of Movements #WEMATTER during Black History Month 2023 is a landmark occasion to recognise and applaud the invaluable contributions of black women to British society, inspire future generations, and empower them. Let us honour the achievements of black women, amplify their voices, and challenge the systems that oppress them. (Blackhistorymonthl.org, 2023)
As part of the BHM celebrations this year, Barnet's 0-19 Early Help Service are inviting children and young people to participate in several activities that are focusing on celebrating black culture. From African/Caribbean Cooking to Afro-Caribbean Hairdressing, African Caribbean inspired Arts & Crafts, Caribbean Carnival Headdress making and many more - we have so many to choose from.
To end the month-long celebrations, on 27 October, we will be hosting a Back History Month Showcase at Canada Villa Youth Centre. Includes includes a selection of authentic Caribbean and African food, entertainment, music, fashion show, a special guest(s) and more.

1:1 Support for SEND Children:
Unfortunately Barnet Council’s Child & Family Early Help Programmes Team are not able to provide 1:1 support workers for a young person to access any of our activities. 1:1 support workers would need to be provided by you as a parent/carer or any professionals (Social Worker/ 0-19 Practitioner) involved with your young person.
If you provide a 1:1 support worker please ensure you email byes@barnet.gov.uk- prior to attending the following:
- 1:1 Support Workers Full Name
- Enhanced DBS details
- Ensure the worker meets the requirements to support a young person with SEND (Special Educational Needs or Disabilities and or Autism).
