Overview

For the Whitsun – May Half Term we are celebrating The Kings Coronation that takes place a few weeks before our half term delivery. We want to invite as many young people as possible to access our Kings Coronation inspired activities and workshops. As a part of this we will be delivering  Comic Art Masterclass Workshop

Kev F Sutherland writes and draws for Beano, Doctor Who and Marvel comics, and makes graphic novels adapted from Shakespeare, and now he'll teach you how easy it is. After the end of a Comic Art Masterclass, everyone goes away with a comic containing a strip by everyone in the class plus an individual caricature by Kev F.

Kev F Sutherland has written and drawn comic strips for everyone from The Beano to Marvel Comics, from Doctor Who to Viz magazine, and most points in between.

His three new graphic novels adapt Shakespeare with a twist: Findlay Macbeth is a salesman in 1970s Scotland, Hamlet Prince Of Denmark Street is in a punk rock band, and The Midsummer Night’s Dream Team takes Shakespeare’s comedy and turns it into a heist movie.

He also teaches his legendary Comic Art Masterclass to school pupils. In a little over two hours he sends every child home with a comic containing a comic strip by everyone in the class, and an individual caricature, showing them how easy comics can be, so they can leave school and steal his job.

2. If you have been successful you will receive an email confirmation.

Don’t forget to spread the word to other young people within Barnet! Watch this space for new and exciting courses that will be advertised on the Barnet Youth website!
Please note: All courses are subject to change or cancellation at the discretion of the Barnet Children's Service.

Lastly our workshop is face to face delivery. Please note Parents and Carers will not be able to wait on site. There will be a drop off and collect point only. If you would like certain children to be grouped in the same bubble due to them being friends or due to travel arrangements, please can both parents/carers let the tutor know before the workshop.

If your young person does need 1:1 support, unfortunately we (Barnet Council’s 0-19 Early Help Programmes Team) aren’t able to provide 1:1 or additional support for a young person to access any of our activities, courses or programmes. Your 1:1 support worker would need to be provided by you as a parent/carer or any professionals (Social Worker/ 0-19 Practitioner etc) involved with your young person. The worker providing 1:1 support would need to be DBS checked and meets all the requirements to support a young person with SEND (Special Educational Needs or Disabilities and or Autism). Also the worker can be arranged by contact Short Breaks Team or Disabled Children’s Team and using your Short Break allocation. If you don’t have knowledge about these two team please know that you can contact them and find out if your child is eligible: -

Lastly we understand that circumstances can change very quickly and sometimes a young person can no longer attend an activity for a number of reasons. Please make sure you update your profile on our website and cancel your booking in advance. Therefore, if you child misses two consecutive sessions in a row or misses 2 separate sessions across the term and we aren’t informed, or an appropriate reason isn't shared we will have to remove your child from the activity. If this continues across a number of our activities, it could impact on your child accessing our activities in the future.
