BACE Autism Horse Experience Day - week 1 is a fun and inclusive holiday day for young people aged 7– 17 that have Autism and require additional support and will not be able to access the day's tasks and require being accompanied by an adult and need additional support to manage in a group with peers.The young people will spend the day learning how to care for and train horses and learning how a horse’s mind works. Through working with the horses the young people will improve in confidence, communication skills and teamwork skills.Join the Strength & Learning Through Horses team to spend a day learning to train horses. Our staff team of horse behaviourists will teach you how a horse thinks, what worries him and what motivates him. You'll use this knowledge to build a relationship of trust with them and train them to undertake a number of fun activities. Activities include: - Putting on head collars and basic horse handling skills - Grooming the horses - Ground based horse training activities - A competitive obstacle course to put your horse training skills to the test - The day will be fun and light hearted and is suitable for young people with no horse experience as well as the more experience horse people, there's something to learn for everyone. Please be aware that some of the activities that we deliver have a very limited course capacity and not everyone that applies will be offered a place, this is one of those courses. The positive activities team have to review all application received before allocating places manually. So you will receive an initially email saying your application has been received and is pending or incomplete. Please wait until you receive an email confirming your application has been successful and your child has been accepted and received a place on this course before planning to attend.3. Turn up to your chosen course and have FUN!

Just a reminder that your child should wear comfortable clothes and have some water as this is a physical activity. Also please can you make sure your child brings a packed lunch as the activity is a full day activity. Please note Parents and Carers will not be able to wait on site. There will be a drop off and collect point only. If you would like certain children to be grouped or paired together due to them being friends or due to travel arrangements, please can both parents/carers let the tutor know at the beginning of the day.If you have any questions, take a look at our FAQ's page here - you may find the answer you are looking for!
Clothing: Your child/ young person should attend their pre-booked activities wearing appropriate, comfortable clothing that is suitable for the weather, as some activities will take place outdoors.
Weather: Please ensure your child has sun protection for sunny days and water-proof clothing for rainy days. Your child will also need to bring a refillable bottle of water with their name on it.
Asthma or Allergies: If your child uses an inhaler or epi pen or any other medication. You MUST ensure that they bring this along with them and notify the activity manager, if you don’t your child will not be allowed into the activity.
Valuables: Please do not bring to camp any valuables or tech gadgets to activities. London Borough of Barnet, Children's Service and the activity provider are not responsible for any lost or damaged items.

Strength and Learning Through Horses is a Charity Partnership based at specialist stables in North London which exclusively serves vulnerable or disadvantaged young people and adults.
Strength in Horses offers Equine Assisted Psychotherapy to vulnerable children and adults with significant mental health needs under the care of qualified Clinical Psychologists and trained horse professionals.
Learning Through Horses offers an alternative education programme working with horses to provide opportunities for disengaged, vulnerable young people and adults to develop vital skills required to further their employment.
